Liverpool have moved ahead of Chelsea to become hot favorites to be the club that signs Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in this transfer window.
If you have been following the World Cup you will notice a familiar pattern. Some player will have a great game – or fantastic moment – and a host of Liverpool fans will comment on Twitter: ” We should sign [INSERT PLAYER”. Especially goalkeepers. However one may actually happen; Kasper Schmeichel.
Liverpool have leapt ahead of Chelsea as favorites to sign Leicester City goalkeeper Schmeichel. Betstars have moved the Reds to 9/2 to sign the 31-year-old keeper. While Liverpool have shown interest in younger keepers this season the Danish star is still in his prime and will have at least four more seasons at the highest level.

Kasper Schmeichel was the talk of social media yesterday after saving a late Luka Modric penalty for Denmark against Croatia. He then saved two more in the penalty shootout.
Liverpool fans have speculated about signing him since Leicester returned to the Premier League in 2014. As the Foxes won the Premier League title in 2016 the rumors grew even more that the Reds would make a move for the stopper.
While the bookies moving Liverpool to favorites is encouraging there are a few obstacles. First would be Leicester’s willingness to sell. They have not shown any desire to move on from him. Their determination to keep Riyad Mahrez despite his wish to leave highlights how they will not be bullied by bigger clubs snooping around their players.
There is also the issue of family loyalty. Schmeichel’s father is Peter Schmeichel; the best goalkeeper in Manchester United history. It is unlikely he would be that jazzed about his son playing for their arch rivals.
The latest from the local journalists claim that there it is very unlikely there will be new transfer business until after the World Cup.
