Wanted: Hector Herrera
Arsenal are interested in signing Porto captain Hector Herrera to replace Aaron Ramsey.
That’s according to the Evening Standard, who claim the 28-year-old midfielder could be targeted in the January transfer window.
Earlier this month, Ramsey’s representatives confirmed the Welsh international would likely depart as a free agent at the end of the season after the club chose not to continue discussions over a new contract.
Recent reports suggest Manchester United and Liverpool are eyeing a cut-price move for Ramsey in January.
And with just 82 days until the transfer window opens – Arsenal are looking for replacements.
Herrera, who played every minute of Mexico’s World Cup campaign, could be snapped up on a free with his contract expiring in June 2019.
Thierry Henry to Monaco
Thierry Henry looks set to take over as Monaco boss after Leonardo Jardim was dismissed.
Henry had been the front runner for the Aston Villa job but turned them down and now looks set to replace Jardim at Monaco.
Henry, currently working as Belgium assistant manager, is expected to take his first managerial role with the Ligue 1 side next week.
The France and Arsenal legend played for Monaco between 1994-1999 before joining Juventus.
Monaco have started the season poorly and sit third with just six points from nine games.
They sacked Jardim today after fours, where he won Ligue 1 and took them to the Champions League semi-final, but was forced to sell an incredible array of players including Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy and Thomas Lemar.
Bayern Munich could snare Lille star Nicolas Pepe ahead of Arsenal.
According to German paper Sport Bild, the Bavarians have pencilled in talks over a prospective January deal.
It’s suggested the the Ligue 1 side value the winger at £30m.
However, Pepe is under contract with Lille until 2022 and the French side have no desperate need to sell him.
Arsenal are already well stocked in attack.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are firing on all cylinders after tough debut seasons in the Premier League.
Unai Emery also has Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck waiting in the wings.
