The 2019 January transfer window is in full swing.
Chelsea are one of several teams across Europe expected to do business this month and they’ve already sealed one deal as Borussia Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic will join up with his new teammates in the summer.
With just under three weeks until deadline day, Bookmakers Betway believe Maurizio Sarri’s side are in urgent need of a striker and offering just 2/5 for the Blues to bolster their attacking options before the 31st.
According to Betway, the most likely arrival in west London is AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain, who is on loan from Juventus this season and has played under the Italian tactician in the past.
The Argentine forward is 11/10 to end his loan spell at the San Siro and be sold by the Serie A leaders to Chelsea and is ahead of reported Premier Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson who is at 9/4 to sign.
Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Two goals for Alvaro Morata versus Nottingham Forest, not to mention a miss of the season contender, was probably not enough to stop Maurizio Sarri’s search for a striker.
“Gonzalo Higuain appears the most likely solution to Chelsea’s goalscoring woes at just 11/10 to sign in the current window, while Callum Wilson may be a little more difficult to tempt at 9/4.
“If Chelsea table the right offer then Edinson Cavani could be swayed but remains just an outside chance of joining the Blues at 7/1.”
Higuain’s potential arrival in west London would spell bad news for one of Olivier Giroud or Alvaro Morata as Sarri favours one up front with two wingers either side.
Both have impressed in patches this term but haven’t managed to establish themselves as the Italian’s first-choice and had scored 14 goals between them across all competitions prior to last night’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg against Tottenham Hotspur.
Should the 31-year-old get this move then Sarri would be delighted as he got the best out of the striker during their days at the Stadio San Paolo together.
